"Changing From the Inside–Voices of Children of
Incarcerated Parents"
Changing From the Inside provides an intimate glimpse at how children cope. Four young adults describe the hardship, the longing for and loss of their parents to the criminal justice system. You want to turn away because their stories are so full of pain and frustration, but there is also hope and reconciliation. These are stories of survival, of success and failure, with a prescription for moving forward that doesn’t preach. Designed as a for incarcerated parents and at-risk young adults this DVD begs to be viewed and discussed by all parents and adolescent children.

Homelessness: First Airs March 3, 2003 Sitting in Santa Cruz: The Anti-panhandler Ordinances © 1994 - 1 hour - $20.00 In the spring of 1994 the city council of Santa Cruz enacted a series
of ordinances designed to restrict begging in the downtown area. The ordinances
covered a wide range of behavior, but the most criticized by many in the
community was a clause that prohibited sitting on the sidewalk. A series
of demonstrations was held by local and regional activists over a period
of months. This video documents the demonstrations and the city's
response. Why I Am Homeless © 1995 - 10 minutes - $17.00 Why I Am Homeless, was filmed at an outdoor shelter campground in Santa
Cruz California. Tents fill a field and living in those tents are people
who are unable to find housing or shelter in other more appropriate and
comfortable facilities. The sound of coughing and a lone voice calling
out for a friend breaks the quiet of the morning. The field is dominated
by a huge stone and gravel machine. Eight men tell why they are homeless. Shirley Mann's Story © 1995 - 10 minutes - $17.00 Shirley is 61 years old. She has worked all her life. Recently she was laid off and her benefits ran out. Now, on General Assistance, and waiting for SSI, Shirley has moved from city to city and shelter to shelter looking for housing she can afford. The first half of the video is an interview with Shirley talking about
the un-imaginable process of becoming homeless after more than 40 years
of employment and housing. The second half of the video finds Shirley ready
to move into senior housing she can afford. Encampment 1992 © 1992 - 66 minutes - $20.00 Homeless people take over an empty lot owned by the State of California
and set up a campground and start a garden and feeding program. Because
of jurisdictional confusion between the city of Santa Cruz and the State
the campers remain for almost a week until they are evicted by police.
The feeding program continues. Video Resume - 1 on
Local Public Access Television © 1995 - 8 minutes - $17.00 The use of voice mail and video is a powerful and innovative pilot work access program for homeless and poor families making use of a donated state of the art voice mail system and video taped resumes. Homeless people are able to present themselves to a wide public access cable television audience. Video Resume, broadcast over 50 times on local public access television,
found work for about a third of the participants . The program presented
a view of homeless people often forgotten in the public perception of people
living in poverty. The program shows people who want to work,... who need
to work in order to become housed again. These videos have had a very real
impact in assisting people to find work, and to shift some bad attitudes
about poor people who want to work and need to work to get off the streets. For More Information Contact: |
