Job Training and Mentorship ProjectHow Does It Work?
The Job Training and Mentorship Project (JTMP) is the second step for
graduates of the Weekend Work Project. Youth
applicants earn the right through the completion of their weekend work days with
a worthy performance. Continuing
the positive relationship developed in the Weekend Work Project,
the JTMP provides further cultivation of the youth’s interests and
talents through paid job training and placements with local businesses. Youth participants have demonstrated excellent motivation, work performance, and a commitment to healthy life choices, including paying restitution and completing probations terms. After job readiness orientation and workshop series, youth are matched with job mentors at an on-the-job training site for eight weeks. CRP
Mentorship Counselors, also WWP Supervisors, provide coordinating services with
the youth and job mentors to ensure the success of the placement.
At the completion of the training youth are hired on at the respective
job mentor sites as trained, job ready employees. Project
Goal The long term goal of the JTMP is to transitioning youth offenders off probation by guiding them through positive life choices and obtaining on-the-job training. The JTMP provides an opportunity for youth and employers to work together to improve their lives, businesses, and community. Youth earnings are used in part to pay restitution owed to victims.
