Weekend Work Project

How Does It Work?

The Weekend Work Project (WWP) is the first step in CRP for youth offenders referred by the Santa Cruz County Probation Department as an alternative to weekend detentions in Juvenile Hall.  The work crew consists of up to ten youth.  Supervision is provided by two adults: one crew supervisor and an assistant.

WWP integrates education by communicating the importance of the work projects to the local environment and community.  Participants gain self-esteem through understanding the value of their contributions, while developing good work habits and skills.  In addition, the crew supervisor and assistant serve as positive role models.

Project Goal

The goal of the WWP is to create positive behavior changes in participants by developing a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and accountability. CRP achieves this goal by involving the youth in the completion of public projects that improve the community and that are recognized by others.

CRP Weekend Work Projects include:

  • Revegetation

  • Storm cleanup

  • Erosion control

  • Light carpentry
