Client Story of the Month

A single, Latina mother with two young children attended one of CAB's Women Ventures Project's non-traditional career training courses.   At the time, she was a CalWORKs participant living in Watsonville in a crowded family situation.  During the six week course her confidence expanded as she participated in carpentry/electrical/ construction skill workshops.  This confidence and the WVP career counseling led her to imagine becoming a building inspector.  With WVP encouragement and case management she enrolled in construction management classes at Cabrillo and obtained an internship which led to her employment in a full time benefited position in this field. She earns over $23 an hour!
